First Round Fields (1991-92)

GSPC in association with its consortium partner Niko Resources Limited (NIKO), Calgary, Canada and Hindustan Oil Exploration Company (HOEC), Baroda was awarded the contract for development of 6 onshore, small-sized oil and gas fields in Gujarat in 1994-95 i.e. Hazira, Bhandut, Cambay, Matar, Sabarmati and Asjol.  NIKO is operator for the first 5 fields, while HOEC is operator for Asjol field. Matar field was subsequently surrendered back to the Government of India after drilling one well.  GSPC's participating interest (PI) varies from 50% to 66.67% in these fields.

Hazira
Hazira is a 50 sq. km. gas field located 35 kms south-west of Surat city, Gujarat.   Two-third of this field lies offshore in water depths of 20 meters.  While taking over, the field was estimated with reserves of 50 million m³ of gas with one well drilled by the national oil company. After taking over, GSPC-Niko commenced production in July 1995 after workover of Hazira well #1. Thereafter, 5 on-land wells were drilled, which upgraded the in-place reserves to more than 20 BCM.  Since the reserves extended up to shallow offshore, a unique 100 sq. m. Land Based Drilling Platform (Ratnakar), the first of its kind in India, was constructed in water depth of 10 to 12 meters. The land based drilling platform is connected to land by a 1.5 km long causeway, which facilitated movement of land rigs, men and materials. Seventeen wells were drilled from the LBDP. Thereafter, to probe further offshore, an offshore platform was constructed about 4 km away from coast in water depths of 20 meters. Out of sixteen wells required to be drilled from the platform, 6 wells have been drilled so far. At present, production from Hazira field is 4 MMSCMD which is likely to go up to 5.5 MMSCMD after drilling all wells from the platform. GSPC - NIKO has also finalised a plan to drill oil well for offshore platform and produce oil at the rate of approximately 2000 BOPD.

Bhandut

Bhandut is a 6 sq. km. oil field located 30 km north-west of Surat city, Gujarat. While taking over, the field was estimated with reserves of 0.3 MMT with two wells drilled in it. After taking over, GSPC-NIKO drilled 4 new wells. Production from this field is around 20 MT/day, which is likely to go up to 100 MT/day with installation of artificial lifts.

Cambay

Cambay is a 161 sq. km. oil-gas field located near Khambat town, Gujarat. Through this field, ONGC made its first indigenous discovery in 1958. Thereafter, 65 wells were drilled in the field. The field produced both oil and gas from miocene, oligocene and eocene sands. While taking over, the field was estimated to have 4 BCM of gas and remaining reserves of 0.235 MMT of oil. After taking over, GSPC-NIKO drilled 4 new wells and worked over some of the existing wells. Presently, Cambay is producing oil in small quantities and poised to produce gas at the rate of 10,000 m³/day in near future. The field has been diagnosed with sub-hydrostatic pressure.

Sabarmati
Sabarmati is a 5.80 sq. km. oil field located in the outskirts of Ahmedabad city, Gujarat. While taking over, the field was estimated with reserves of 0.95 MMT with one well drilled in it. After taking over, GSPC-NIKO worked over the existing wells and the field is producing 10 MT/day of oil. Two new deviated wells are planned to be drilled in this field to increase oil production.

Asjol

Asjol is a 15 sq. km. oil field located near Mehsana town, Gujarat. While taking over, the field was estimated with reserves of 1.07 MMT of oil with five wells drilled in it. After taking over, GSPC-HOEC worked over one existing well and drilled two new wells. The field is producing 10-12 MT/day of oil.

Second Round Fields (1995-96)

In 1995-96, GSPC in association with its consortium partners Hindustan Oil Exploration Company (HOEC), Baroda and Heramec, UK was awarded the contract for development of 6 onshore small-sized oil and gas fields in Gujarat i.e. North Balol, Unawa, North Kathana, Kanawara, Allora and Dholasan. Initially, HOEC was operator for 2 fields while Heramec was operator for 4 fields. Thereafter, Heramec handed over its participating interest (PI) and Operatorship to Hardy Exploration Company, who in turn sold it to Alkor Technologies, Hyderabad, while GSPC took over operatorship of Unawa field. GSPC's participating interest in these fields varies from 45% to 70%.

North Balol

North Balol is a 27.30 sq. km. gas field located near Mehsana town in North Gujarat. While taking over, the field was estimated with reserves of 380 million m³ with seven wells drilled in it. After taking over, the wells were worked over and it was decided to commence gas production from 3 wells at the rate of 30,000 m³ /day.

Unawa

Unawa is a 5.6 sq. km. oil field located near Mehsana town in North Gujarat. While taking over, the field was estimated with in-place reserves of 0.46 MMT with two wells drilled in it. GSPC took over as operator of this field and worked over the existing well. Production has commenced from this well at the rate of 10-15 MT/day.

North Kathana

North Kathana is a 7 sq. km. oil field located near Khambat town in Central Gujarat. While taking over, the field was estimated with in-place reserves of 0.2 MMT with two wells drilled in it.

Kanawara

Kanawara is a 6.30 sq. km. oil-gas field located near Khambat town in Central Gujarat. While taking over, the field was estimated with in-place reserves of 0.456 MMT of oil and 73 MCM of gas with two wells drilled in it.

Allora
Allora is a 6.85 sq. km. oil field located near Khambat town in Central Gujarat. While taking over, the field was estimated with in-place reserves of 0.14 MMT with four wells drilled in it.

Dholasan

Dholasan is an 8.8 sq. km. oil-gas field located near Khambat town in Central Gujarat. While taking over, the field was estimated with in-place reserves of 0.63 MMT of oil and 77 MCM of gas with two wells drilled in it. Production from this field has commenced at the rate of 5-10 MT/day.
