Blocks Awarded During Pre - NELP  (April 2000)

CB-ON/2 (Tarapur) - Area : 1618 sq. km. (GSPC - 100% PI)
GSPC in association with Hindustan Oil Exploration Company (HOEC) was awarded the Tarapur exploration block under the Government of India's pre-NELP offer during April 2000, with GSPC as the operator.  After sometime, HOEC withdrew its stake and at present, GSPC is holding 100% participating interest in this block with ONGC as licensee with the right to acquire up to 30% stake in a discovery.

The block falls in western India in proven petroliferous Cambay basin, which is producing over 120,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd) in the State of Gujarat  and within the highly prospective Ahmedabad-Mehsana block, surrounded by many oil/gas producing fields like Akholjuni, Lanwa, Unawa and West Bechraji.  Prior to taking over the block, 28 wells were drilled in the block by ONGC with production from a couple of wells.

There are 3 phases to the Production Sharing Contract for Tarapur Block. As part of Phase1 exploration program, GSPC was required to carry out reprocessing of 750 LKM of 2D data, which was completed successfully. Thereafter in Phase II, GSPC was required to drill one well which was also successfully executed. Significantly, during course of drilling the first well (Tarapur#1), hydrocarbons were encountered. Another location to delineate the extent of reservoir is planned for drilling. There is also a plan to acquire 3D seismic data for better delineation of structures in Tarapur block.

CB-ON/7 (Palej) - Area: 525 sq. km. (GSPC - 50% PI)
GSPC in association with Hindustan Oil Exploration Company (HOEC), Baroda was awarded the contract for exploration of Palej block under Government of India's pre-NELP offer during April 2000, with HOEC as the operator.

The block falls in western India in proven petroliferous Cambay basin, which is producing over  120,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd), in the State of Gujarat and within the highly prospective Ahmedabad-Mehsana block, surrounded by many oil producing fields like Lanwa, Unawa and West Bechraji. One of the two existing wells within the block drilled earlier had tested oil.

There are 3 phases to the Production Sharing Contract on Palej Block. As a part of Phase 1 exploration program, existing well-Palej-4 was successfully re-entered and activated. Thereafter, one exploratory well was drilled and hydrocarbon was discovered. Based on the discovery, delineation well was drilled. In the process, 350 LKM of existing 2D data was reprocessed and interpreted. At present, Early Production System has been installed at Palej-4 and is poised for commencement of production at an approximate rate of 500 BOPD.

Exploration Block Under NELP-II

CB-ONN-2000/1 (Ahmedabad) - Area: 1424 sq. km. (GSPC - 50% PI)
GSPC in association with GAIL (India) Limited was awarded the contract for exploration of CB-ONN-2000/1 block under the Government of India's NELP-II offer during July 2001, with GSPC as the operator.
The block is located in Gujarat, within proven petroliferous Cambay basin surrounded by various oil/gas producing fields like Sanand, Nawagam, Olpad & Wasna.

There are 3 phases to the Production Sharing Contract on the CB-ONN-2000/1 Block. As a part of Phase 1 exploration program, GSPC and its JV partners are required to carry-out 120 sq. km. of 3D Seismic API & drilling of 7 wells. Phase 1 has been successfully completed with drilling of 7 wells. More importantly, a significant discovery was made in fractured basement rocks containing in-place reserves of approximately 50 million barrels. Early Production System has been installed and production has already commenced from PK#2 well. The field has a potential to produce up to 1000-1500 BOPD. A development plan to drill 3 new locations has been submitted for Director General Hydrocarbon's approval.
